Best Air Fryers Under $100

There have been a few phenomenons in kitchen gadget trends over the past few years --one being the Instantpot and the other being the Air Fryer.  In this article, we'll cover the Air Fryer and help consumers identify the best options for under $100.  In this piece we rely heavily on Amazon ratings to help decide on the best options.

We hope you enjoy and please let us know in the comments of any air fryer that you recommend!

So, What Exactly is an Air Fryer?

Before we start, let's cover the bases of what an air fryer actually is and why you would even need to buy one. Basically, an air fryer is supposed to cook food...well more healthy. It's picked up popularity fueled in large part by some diet crazes such as Paleo and Whole30.

In the grand scheme of things, the air fryer is mostly a glorified convection oven.  Meaning that the air fryer is using air (wow what a shocker) to cook the food.  For more technical terms, we consulted with Wikipedia who had this to say:

A mechanical fan circulates the hot air around the food at high speed, cooking the food and producing a crispy layer via the Maillard effect.

So there you have it. The air fryer gets food crispy using just air in a very short amount of time. The benefits versus deep fried food are pretty obvious. Those deep fried twinkies might taste pretty good, but your arteries slap you silly after you eat one.

DEEP FRIED TWINKIES TASTE GOOD, BUT HOW DO THOSE ARTERIES FEEL?

So what sort of foods work well with the air fryer?  This post from BuzzFeed says that frozen vegetables work really well, and frozen french fries, but other that that, the jury was still out.  Thus i consulted with my favorite forum friends from the Cooking forum over at Reddit who say that these things are actually LEGIT.

Some of the foods that they say work well in the air fryer include Wings, Fish, Pork Chops, Bacon and Sausages and ..Blooming Onions.  Wait what, bloomin onions?  I had to investigate this further.   I did find this recipe, which seems like it could work well?

WAIT -- I CAN MAKE A BLOOMIN ONION WITH THIS THING?!?

So, sort of a mixed bag. Some call it a convection oven and some say it's the best thing since the Foreman grille (kidding not kidding..). Anyways, i'd love to hear the consensus. Let me know in the comments if you have an air fryer, what model and whether you would recommend it to anyone.

Anyhoo-let's take a look at some of the top air fryers under $100!

Note that you can go balls to the wall with an expensive, oversized unit but typically under $100 gets you what you would need..also we only included those with over 100 reviews and excluded any that looked suspicious from a review standpoint

  • Secura Air Fryer
Secura 4 Liter Extra Large Capacity 1500 Watt Electric Hot Air Fryer $84.99
People are raving about this one: close to 800 reviews and 4.5 Stars. Plus at 4 Liters it's one of the bigger units in the price range. Like many others a consensus that reheating food tastes great with this unit.
  • simple-chef-air-fryer
Simple Chef Air Fryer - Air Fryer For Healthy Oil Free Cooking - 3.5 Liter $64.49
A little smaller than the Secura unit, but a more reasonable price at less than $70.  This unit also gets rave reviews from fans- 4.5 Stars and over 800 reviews.  One reviewer says that they cooked "pork chops, home fries cut from real potatoes, sweet potato fries, fried chicken, squash, pot pie, baked apples and roasted califlower."  Sounds good to me and looks like a quality air fryer.
  • cozyna air fryer
Digital Air Fryer Touchscreen by Cozyna (3.7QT) $89.99
One of the only ones under $100 with a digital touchscreen, this unit also comes with an airfyer cookbook and a skewer rack.  Again a very well reviewed unit with 4.5 stars.  One reviewer I liked the best said that the unit 'lends itself to a deep frying comparison due to its ‘basket’' and that the air fryer is 'exceptionally well positioned to make traditionally fried food'.  He also claims that it should be called a fryer but a 'high powered convection oven'.  But we allready knew that :)
  • GoWISE USA 3.7-Quart Programmable Air Fryer with 8 Cook Presets $75
Anecdotally, i've heard good things about GoWISE and the reviews here back it up--4.5 stars on over 500 reviews.  This also has a digital front unit, with 8 different presets for 'warm, fries/chips, chicken, steak, shrimp, pork, cake, and fish'.  Also includes a recipe book for popular recipes and users seem to be in consensus in that the unit is very easy to clean and definitely a good tool to make 'crispy foods'.  Definitely a contender.
  • avalon bay air fryer
Avalon Bay Air Fryer, For Healthy Fried Food, 3.7 Quart Capacity $79.99
A solid reviewed air fryer (note don't forget to clip the $10 coupon on Amazon for this one), the Avalon Bay unit has a 3.7 Liter capacity and includes a non-stick baking dish, multi-use rack, and a 52-page Avalon Bay cookbook for Air Fryers.   One Amazon Hall of Fame Reviewer claims that this fryer "cooks food to a crispy golden brown, just like deep frying or pan frying".  The same reviewer also notes that "It has earned a permanent place" on their counter while also taking up "very little space."
